Katur’s only port city, and therefore primary center of trade. Dozens of ships come in each day from foreign nations, bringing all sorts of trade goods and diverse crew members to Katur. This large city is regularly home to 15000 inhabitants, though there is often more people in the city due to its status as a port. It is home to only one guild: the Merchant’s Guild, which governs the city (though King Vaeryn IV still has supreme power). Some have suggested that a Thieves Guild exists within the city, though this is just rumor. There are more crimes committed here than any other city in Katur, though most just chalk this up to the fact that it is a large city with a less effective guard force than Plenor City.
The marketplace is the most impressive part of the city, being nearly as impressive as the one in Plenor City. However, many of the merchants in Port Serua are open to alternative forms of payment, such as bartering. Rumors abound that you can find illegal goods such as drugs and slaves for sale if you search in the right places. As a city with a highly fluctuating population, there are several taverns (most with a few rooms for rent), more than any other city in Katur. The city is also home to Katur’s only legal brothel: A Sheath For Every Sword. As sailors tend to be more superstitious than most, there are a few temples in Port Serua, each dedicated to a different deity of the sea. They are often visited by sailors who wish to have a safe journey.
Port Serua was built shortly after King Vaeryn I was crowned. It was built in the location where he and his companions had landed, as he believed it was the best place for a port. Although it never moved beyond a small village with a few docks during his lifetime, his successors would make improvements to make it the fine port city it is today.
